Cagliari, Sardinia

For Jaimee's 30th birthday celebration (the perfect excuse!) a few of us went to Piero's home town in Sardinia for a long weekend.

It was my last hope for a summer break and it didn't disappoint. Cocktails, beach, great food and excellent company as always. I'm pretty sure Jaimee had a good time too ;-)

On arrival we had a fantastic 6 course lunch in Piero's mum's back garden. No guide book can give you this kind of local experience - it was such a treat.

Hardly a flattering photo but you get the gist!

We sat in this square on numerous occasions - the city's best gelato shop is here!

The coast road east to the beach was stunning.

We spent the whole afternoon swimming and lounging around at Villasimius. It was a gorgeous day and a beautiful spot to swim. I could have stayed there for days.

On Monday morning (yay - not at work!) we shopped. Here's the birthday girl mixing it up with the locals.

Down on the city beach after a tropical shower. Hardly compares to Southbank does it?

Cocktail hour

No great pics of the evenings out I'm afraid but my compatriots will no doubt put them on facebook. After Maria Pia's (P's mum) enormous lunch we stuck with cocktails on Sat eve at the oldest cafe in town and in a bar outside the castle overlooking the city.

Sunday night was spent indulging in a massive feast in a local trattoria. It started with antipasto vegetables, cold meats, cheese & bread followed by pasta, a meat course, fresh fruit and birthday cake. I loved the constantly flowing wine in earthenware jugs.

Monday night's dinner was at a seafood only restaurant where the hostess served salmon, tuna, squid, octopus, swordfish, and mussels just for the starter. The fresh grilled fish for main was really good.
