The two of us drove (that's right, drove - care of Laura's boyfriend's car) down to Dulwich - it's a very wealthy little neighbourhood in south east London and somewhere new to check out.
We wandered around the village - that took all of two 2 minutes - and then around what is the main drawing card for the village, the Dulwich Picture Gallery. It's a traditional art gallery full of the old masters and is one of the oldest in the city. It's only small but the commentary about the artwork was some of the most informative and interesting I've read in a gallery.
Back in Balham we enjoyed a late lunch at my new local, The French Cafe. A chicken salad and a glass of rose for me!

Agreed re: gallery - the snippets were v informative. The amount of restoration was v impressive too. All in all, a worthwhile trip - and free for students!
