North Yorkshire for Laura's 30th

The first May long weekend was spent in and around the Yorkshire moors to celebrate Laura's birthday. We were based in a little village called Fryup where Barry [her boyfriend] is from.

I've been really wanting to go clay pigeon shooting for a while now and Laura indulged me by arranging it on Saturday morning. It was much harder than it looks but good fun and I actually hit one of them! We had the famed fish & chips of Whitby for lunch and bathed in the sun while it was out, then headed back to the Village Hall for a BBQ with all the friends and family.

On Sunday we went rambling for a few hours across the moors where it hailed and sleeted along the way - so much for Spring! The landscape changes from pretty fields dotted with farmhouses to the dramatic and bleak moors. We found a safe haven in an isolated pub that serves good grub and spent the afternoon there before moving to another pub for a quiz night with the locals.

Wild scenery but a relaxing weekend and a nice way to celebrate.
