Latitude Festival 2011

Last weekend Stuart, Kris and I camped at our first Latitude Festival in Suffolk together - and it was tremendous fun!

Set on a lake with open fields and woodland areas, it's relatively small which makes it easy to get around. It has a jam-packed programme on in the various tents and on stage - a real mix, not just music. There was so much we didn't see. The nightlife isn't as entertaining as Glastonbury - but it's a bit unfair to compare it to the best festival in Europe. We still managed to dance the night away at Guilty Pleasures and the disco shed and check out the winter's ball in the Faraway Forest.

Highlights were:

- English National Ballet performing Carmen on the waterfront stage
- Sadlers Wells' Zoo Nation dancing away in the rain
- Listening to writer Patrick Barkham talk about his search for all 59 British butterflies (now a book called The Butterfly Isles)
- A Q&A session with the two comedians from 'The Trip'
- Pie, chips and gravy
- Eating a proper sit down dinner at London's Giant Robot (the pea and broad bean risotto was excellent!)
- The School of Life Sunday Sermon
- Comedian, Alan Carr
- Getting another wear out of my wellies! (it was sunny on Friday but wet on Saturday and Sunday)

And, of course, the music:

Wanda Jackson - the Queen of hillbilly who toured with Elvis
Lyle Lovett
The Vaccines
Group Love (excellent)
Seasick Steve
Paolo Nutini
The Head & the Heart (also excellent)
Iron and Wine
Foster the People
