This weekend was our annual weekend escape to Devon to visit Becky's parent's in Germansweek, Devon. I was looking forward to it all week, not in the least because I always have an amazing night's sleep when I go! It's such a relaxing weekend and a treat to be doted on!
Laura, Becky and I pulled in to Exeter late on Friday night and we were greeted by Frieda & Keith who drove us back to their house in Germansweek. We stayed up for a while chatting over a cup of tea before sleep overcame us.
On Saturday I didn't wake up til 10am which was the best possible start for our day's excursion. We drove to the Cornish coastline at Morwenstow and walked along the cliffs to find Hawker's Hut. The scenery was stunning - it was such a sunny bright blue day - just glorious! It even brought out a couple of late summer butterflies (I photographed a Small Tortoiseshell but don't know what the other two were. Perhaps a Red Admiral, and maybe a Small White or Wood White).
For lunch we stopped at the Bush Inn and sat in the beer garden. I had an excellent ploughman's with local cheeses (including Cornish yarg wrapped in wild garlic leaves). From here we drove to Welcombe Mouth. The beach was fascinating with its worn down, angled rocks protruding from the sand. The afternoon sun on the beach was lovely and we explored the rock pools (spotted a crab!) and pebbly beach.

Before it got dark, Keith took Laura and I on a walking tour of his specially selected trees in the back garden and we settled in for a quiet night in playing charades and Taboo after our supper.
I had another good night's sleep last night and woke up refreshed this morning. We visited Aunty Liz for morning tea at her lovely house overlooking the reservoir. Then it was back to the house for lunch before the inevitable train ride back to London.
I love weekends in the country. Two weeks in a row - I could get used to this life!
