Long lunch at Dabbous

Two weeks ago saw the last of the long lunches with Laura - for a little while at least!

Laura made our reservation at Dabbous months previously and secured the last remaining table for the year - its been fully booked since it opened at the beginning of the year. Needless to say the meal was much anticipated but we weren't disappointed.

We started with a cocktail each. I had the seasonal 'Parum-plum-plum-plum' with fig and plum infused rum. The warm, freshly baked bread was served in a brown paper bag stamped with the day's date.  We decided to make the most of the cooking and share the tasting menu so we could both try the 8 dishes. My favourites were the grilled mackerel with iodised sour cream, cucumber and samphire and the roast pork belly with savoury acorn praline, turnip tops and apple vinegar. All the dishes were beautifully presented and demonstrated innovative cooking - in particular the dessert of milk curd with toasted hay, birch sap and winter vegetables.

It was a lovely lunch and afternoon spent with Laura. The service was impeccable, the atmosphere modern and industrial but still warm, and the prices incredibly reasonable (only £26 for 4 courses). The bar downstairs looks super cool so I might have to sneak back while I wait for another table to be free.

The milk curd dessert was oddly tasty, and the cheese selection was excellent
