Sunday vs Sunday

Sunday 13th October
I had one of my favourite kind of days on the Sunday before last. After a very reasonable sleep-in and eggs and salmon for breakfast, Ollie and I set off for a jam-packed afternoon including...

The Australia exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art
A late lunch at Cecconi's (veal cannelloni; no time for the tiramasu)
A cocktail (Miss Moneypenny) at Duke's
Seeing a film (Filth) at the cinema
A scoop of gelati (ricotta and sour cherry) from Gelupo
And a last drink at Balham Bowls Club

It was nicely paced, cultural and lots of fun. London life at it's very best.

Sunday 20th October
Embarrassingly I couldn't remember the last time I had read a paper from cover to cover and it was bothering me. So when my Sunday afternoon plans were cancelled this weekend I went straight to the newsagent and picked up a paper. The Observer (it had the monthly food mag so seemed like a good choice). After several hours parked on the couch, and many more cups of tea, I finally finished the entire thing - barring the sports section - at about 7pm.

It was so fulfilling. I felt smarter, and I think I learned more in the afternoon than I had for most of the year. As I diligently put the last section in the recycling, I vowed to do it again, soon. I have a feeling I'll be justly investing my winter weekends in couch time. With Saturdays devoted to city adventures.
