Mum visited for three nights last weekend, her visit down to see me, and it was a good excuse to explore more of Melbourne.
It was Open House Weekend so we visited the State Library and saw some of the behind the scenes areas. It's an impressive interior and reading room and would be an inspiring place to study or learn chess with tables set up ready to go.
We popped into the ABC Studios where the nightly news and many of Mum's favourite shows are filmed. Unknown to me but we were shown around by the nightly news reader. It's really a tiny studio space considering what they do there.
The last tour was at The Hotel Espy. A favourite local pub which was recently refurbed into some great new bar spaces and the interior stylist told us how she brought it to life.
We stayed for lunch at the pub which was good and checked out the hub of St Kilda afterwards. It was the first time I've seen Port Philip Bay since arriving and very odd to see the sea so close to the city. It felt like a mini Bali to me, not in a good way.
We had another lunch out with a family friend in Camberwell, near when I lived as a toddler.
I took Mum for a trip to my local market where we picked up fresh meat, pasta and treats. We also ate at a local Italian, Park Street Italian and breakfast at Cumulus Inc.
