After our arrival on the Friday night, we headed out for dinner to a great schnitzel restaurant - the schnitzel was the size of a dinner plate and very tasty. Several glasses of red at a nearby wine bar went down very well as we eased into weekend mode.

Given our limited time we opted not to rush through the sights but set a leisurely pace through the Christmas markets on Saturday. These ranged from touristy & tatty to quite charming. I was inspired to buy a wreath, some fairy lights and ginger bread men. The sausages and apfel punsch were an enormous hit and very warming on a crisp (but sunny!) day.

That night we were treated to something less traditional at Motto on the recommendation of Piero's friend - a cool dinner and bar venue. We kicked on at a gay club til the wee hours.
And that took us swiftly to Sunday when we made a dash for our morning flight and returned home to London a little weary but satiated. Vienna oozed festive spirit with the markets and street lights so was a terrific destination to kick off the season's frivolities. It's a lovely city and I will definitely go back and see the rest of it properly some time.
