Wedding party in Sevilla

I joined David for the wedding of a couple of his friends for four days over the last weekend.

I went to Seville a few years ago for Semana Santa, so rather than do the touristy thing, this weekend was all about the wedding - and enjoying the sun, palm trees, oleanders, orange trees and blue, blue sky...

I arrived late on Thursday after a nightmare journey (see previous post), but in time for some vino and tapas which more than made up for the previous few hours.

On Friday morning I met David for breakfast and we caught up on the last 6 months while wandering through the streets and reacquainting myself with the city. In the afternoon we headed to a hacienda just outside town which would be the venue for the three day event. Think white washed walls covered in bougainvillea and hibiscus, luscious green grass, and a choice of swimming pools. There was a welcome lunch for everyone, swimming, a sherry tasting at dusk, a leg of jamon to be devoured, and a BBQ for dinner. We got back to the hotel around 3am, and the party had only just begun!

On Saturday we set a leisurely pace as we walked through Barrio Santa Cruz and lunched at Bar Alfafa before going back to the hacienda for the evening wedding. It is a gorgeous setting for such a special occasion and the ceremony was lovely (the parts not in Dutch anyway!). With champagne flowing the second party began. There were speeches over a late sit-down dinner in an olive tree grove and it kicked on til 6am with the bride ending up in the pool in her dress!

Sunday saw us back at the hacienda for the final meal together - this time paella. I had a last dip in the pool and we said our goodbyes to all the lovely people we'd met.

The evening was ours and we spent it drinking cerveza and rebujitos on the roof terrace of EME hotel overlooking the cathedral before dinner in town.

On Monday I had time to sleep in, have coffee at a favourite spot, shop, lunch, wander some more, and have two scoops of the best ice cream in town.

And that was the end of an excellent weekend, and one of the best ways to top up on vitamin D there is!
