My plan this year was to cook dinner for friends at least once a month. That definitely didn't happen but I did manage it once last weekend when Laura & Barry, Jaimee & Damian and Kris came over on Saturday night. It marked the last time I'd be cooking for Laura and Barry for some time.
Piero was in town and we were going out for lunch with him the same day so I wanted to choose something relatively simple and wanted a recipe from a book called Comfort & Spice which Becky gave me for my birthday. I opted for crudités and hommous (the tarragon mayonnaise sadly didn't work out), slow roast pork shoulder (from the amazing local butcher) with spiced apple sauce, and chocolate mousse. I made the mousse and the sauce the night before, and put the pork not to roast at 8 on Saturday morning for 12 hours! With a little bit of preparation and a lot of chopping of vegetables after lunch I was all set for the gang to arrive.
I'm fairly confident the cooking was a success and it was a fun night. I ate pork sandwiches for 3 days straight afterwards! I forgot to take any photos so these are care of Kris.

| The boys were in charge of carving |

| It's rich so a small dish of mousse is all that is needed |
