Wich Thursday

I am a big fan of the toasted cheese sandwich. And up until this week I thought I could make a pretty decent one. I went to a Young and Foodish event at Camden Town Brewery on Thursday with Stu & Kris and some friends to try a few professionally made versions. It seems there is some improvement needed on my part here...

There were four toasted sandwiches from well-known chefs and restauranteurs on offer to try throughout the evening and then we voted for our favourite.

My favourite was the Reuben from Mishkin's but the overall winner was Pump Street Bakery with a mushroom and truffle toastie. The classic, produced by some guys who have people lining up at their Borough Market stall, was popular. And the fourth sandwich was apparently more of an American style but I thought was cheating slightly with its beef patty and cheese and should be kept to the Burger Monday race.

It seems everyone has an opinion on my favourite comfort food (in the top ten at least) and the competitive spirit made the evening a jovial one. Bring on Spag Bol Wednesday is all I can say!

Tasted better than this looks...
