2021 Year in Review

It's probably a good sign that it's March and I am only just getting around to writing up this annual review. At the very least it means that 2022 has had a different start to 2021.

The fact that there were only 7 blog posts in all of 2021 (compared to the peak of 52 in 2007!) suggests that there's very little to actually review.

It was the second year in a row spent mostly in pandemic lockdown (4 in Melbourne throughout the year), facing some restriction or other, or working from home. So life was spent either at home, within the 'hoods of South Yarra and South Melbourne, at Sandringham, or at Justin's Mum's house in Pascoe Vale.

The best part about the year was no doubt getting to know Justin. Enjoying his company throughout the endless quiet days made life easier and a lot more fun. There were a lot of walks around the Tan and the Gardens, picnics when they were permitted, puzzles, poker games, TV, cocktails, and even more bottles of wine and home cooked dinners. Getting my vegepod for the fire escape kept me occupied with watering and harvest ;-). Despite no outdoor space and the hefty price tag, I was so grateful to be in this light apartment so close to the gardens and with its gas fire for all those cosy days and nights indoors.

Once out and about again, it was straight back to pubs, galleries and restaurants. Justin and I splurged (read: champagne and caviar) at Cutler & Co to celebrate. I got to spend time again with a few friends too. Mostly Jane, Jayde, Pauline and Anna. And I got back into Pilates most Saturday mornings followed by a trip to the South Melbourne markets.

A notable work achievement was that I was promoted to General Manager of a newly formed business division called TBWA\ Experience formalising much of the work I had been doing with my work-partner-in-crime Joel, and readying to take it to a wider market. After nearly 3 years at the agency it felt like a good progression.

After sitting at the dining table on Bentwood chairs for nearly 2 years of working from home, I finally bought a desk and chair for the spare room so ended the year sitting slightly more comfortably.

There was no point taking any holiday so I saved it all up for 4 weeks off at Christmas in Queensland with Mum, Rob and Justin, and seeing a bunch of good friends, which was the best possible way to round up the year.
