music and camping delights

This weekend we went to V Festival (my first uk festival) to celebrate Stuart’s 30th birthday which we did doing one of the things Stu loves best – seeing loads of bands and listening to some great music.

The birthday boy himself

We had an early start on Saturday morning. Stu, Damian & Amanda picked Laura and I up and we headed to Chelmsford. After finding a very handy parking space (read: we left the car at the entrance and hoped no one would notice it’s not actually a parking spot) we selected our pitch in the red campsite. Tents erected, drinks cracked open and gang assembled - Zoe, Claire, Jodie, Lawrence, Felicity, Ange & Lee also joined the party - we headed into the festival.

For me, Saturday’s amazing line up included The Magic Numbers, Xavier Rudd, Beck, The Editors and top it off, Radiohead (I still cannot believe I have now seen these guys live!!) – all really excellent gigs. On Sunday, from our great spot under the tree, we saw The Dandy Warhols, Sugababes (they did seem slightly out of place!), Hard-Fi, Gomez, Faithless, and we ended the night with Razorlight.

There were less exciting line ups during the day were for bar tickets and the toilet.

Non-music highlights: sunshine all day on both days; getting more use out of my £20 tent; skipping through the field with the birthday boy in tow; celebrity spotting – Ben from the Australian TV show, Surfing Australia; not having the car clamped; the text the fest, ‘I feel sorry for the womble with a pole stuck up his arse’ text message on the big screen; having full drinks after negotiating the 60,000+ crowd back to our group; and birthday cake 2 days in a row.

Fellow campers

A weekend jam-packed with music and fun! Bring on V 2007! I'd write more but then you'd just be jealous.
