More of Brussels

Eating and drinking seems to be a running theme for me in Brussels!

Friday started with a house party at Mattias' friend, Kristiina's place. Saturday, in usual form, was a late lunch at a restaurant in the Marollen area which serves traditional Belgian food and I tried rabbit with prunes served with the ubiquitous frites. Very tasty. We walked off this meal wandering around the Sablon and Mont des Artes areas and topped up with a tartine and kriek or two along the way. Dinner was at a greek restaurant with some delicious meze in a cool warehouse setting (vs the typical plastic table cloth!).

On Sunday I was left to my own devices so with the shops closed I had brunch in St Catherine and headed to the art gallery with Kristiina to see a photography exhibition called Euro Vision. They're celebrating 50 years of the EU at the moment so it was a timely insight into the 10 new member countries which have joined since 2004. Much of it was bleak but the shots of Solvenia & Poland were interesting and showed the countries in good light rather than harping on the differences quite so much. The rest of the gallery held a modest collection. I don't love the 15th & 16th C art where religion is the theme of the time. Seurat is still a favourite. Some more nibbles and a cherry beer and it was on the train home.

An enjoyable weekend for my first trip overseas since January!
