Weekend in Wool, Dorset

I just spent the loveliest weekend in Wool with my cousin, Rob and Carolyn. After all the excitement of the royal wedding it was a much needed, gentle wind down. I arrived on Saturday afternoon in time for tea in the summerhouse at the back of the garden overlooking their fields - idyllic. We spent the evening with some more of the family and catching up on family news.

Yesterday we took a packed lunch and walked up to Swire’s Head overlooking the coast. We stopped in at the village of Moreton afterwards and in the local churchyard saw the grave of T.E. Laurence (of Laurence of Arabia fame) who spent the last years of his life in the area and had a cup of tea at the old school house.

I joined Rob and Jove the dog, for their last daily walk around the fields to check on the sheep (he sees each of his sheep once a day) and took in the delightful surrounds of the meadow fields complete with swans in the river.

We had a proper home-cooked dinner in their lovely manor house kitchen (with Purbeck stone floors) and sat in front of the fire in the drawing room before heading up to bed.

This morning, after my fill of tea and marmalade and butter on toast, it was back to London.
