Ollie's 30th Birthday in the Lakes

To celebrate Ollie's 30th birthday we spent a long weekend in Cartmel in the south of the Lake District. We had a brilliant weekend staying in Crumble Cottage. Cartmel is quite a foodie village so we were able to stock up at the local market and shops when we arrived. We cooked breakfasts in the cottage, went on a few walks, and ate at some great pubs. We hired a car for the weekend as well so got to enjoy the scenery all around the area.

The highlight, and the main reason for being in the Lakes, was dinner on Saturday night at the 3 michelin star L'Enclume. We had the 17 course tasting menu which was unbelievable, with accompanying wines plus the cheese course. As if that wasn't extravagant enough, I ordered a special glass of wine each (£30 each!) - a Pouilly-Fume Silex - using a Coravin, a new gadget that uses a needle to extract the a glass of wine from the bottle without removing the cork.
